John Deere machines operate in tough conditions where impact loads, dust, and dirt put special demands on seals, lubricants, and bearing finish.

If the bearing fits, will it work?

Even though two bearings have exactly the same dimensions, crucial differences may show up in operation.  Some of the factors that come into consideration are:

Using a single lip seal when a triple lip seal is required could result in a seal or lubricant failure, leading to bearing failure and possible equipment damage.

Replacing a high-speed ball bearing with the same size high-load roller bearing brings the same risk of failure and equipment damage.

If the bearing cone radius “A” is too sharp, it could interfere with the mounting shaft or housing.  If it is too large, it could have insufficient back-up surface.  In both situations, the bearing location will be incorrect.

Not all bearings have the same cage outline "B".  This may result in bearing cage interference with other bearing parts.

Bearing load capacity is another important consideration.  Although two bearings have the same dimensions, it does not mean they have the same load-carrying capacity.  This is especially true with ball bearings, since different size and number of balls can result in lower capacity.

Bearing seals and grease must be able to withstand the application.  If used in a high-temperature environment, a high-temperature grease is required.  If the bearing is used in a high-load application, an extreme-pressure grease is required.

John Deere Bearings are Designed for Specific Applications

John Deere bearings are manufactured and tested to rigid quality standards to ensure they stand up to tough use.  John Deere bearings are tested in two ways:

·        Laboratory tests: Under accelerated conditions, various bearing types from several sources are tested to ensure the correct bearing is selected.

·        Field tests: In actual working conditions.

By using John Deere replacement bearings, the customer can be assured that he is getting a bearing with the correct sealing, lubrication, internal tolerance finish, load, and speed characteristics.  This means longer bearing life and reduced downtime.
