Wear Characteristics and Maintenance Tips: Crankshaft Main and Rod Bearings

Crankshaft main and rod bearings on any engine will wear over time. Replacing the bearings before wear-out can avoid crankshaft and rod damage, and costly downtime.

Maintenance Guidelines:

·        Replacing main and rod bearings after every 5,000 hours of operation is recommended.

·        When replacing main and rod bearings, inspect wear patterns on the engine crankshaft, pistons, and liners.

·        If no further work is required, replace the main and rod bearings with a John Deere underhaul kit.
