John Deere hardened and non-chromed rasp bars are standard equipment on all walker corn combines. John Deere hardened and chromed rasp bars are standard equipment on small-grain walker and CTS combines. Whenever a rasp bar is replaced, the mating bar, located 180 degrees on the opposite side of the cylinder, must also be replaced to maintain cylinder balance. When replacing sets of two rasp bars (20 Series and older), both bars must be replaced and for sets of five (9000 Series and newer), all five bars must be replaced. Replacement bars are sold in matched sets of right-hand or left-hand patterns. When wear on the rasp bar occurs, it is recommended to replace all of the bars on the cylinder. Extensive John Deere field-testing and studies have shown that the type of rasp bar used can have a significant effect on grain quality. The surface of the smooth rasp bar has no serrations. The smooth surface helps to deliver a “softer”, less aggressive threshing impact than a regular rasp bar. This bar is recommended for use only in food corn. This serrated rasp bar has a gently contoured surface design that wears to an even, smooth profile after only 50 to 100 hours of use. This rasp bar is recommended for use in harvesting corn, popcorn, soybeans, malting barley, edible beans, or any seed crop where high quality grain is demanded. rThe chrome, overlay skin of this rasp bar provides twice the wear life of the non-chromed rasp bar. The chromed rasp bar also features a smooth, contoured profile design, but new, sharp surface edges won’t “wear off” as rapidly as on the non-chromed rasp bar. As a result, this rasp bar is not recommended for use in high-moisture corn or soybeans, or any crop where the highest quality grain is the main consideration. However, this rasp bar is ideally suited for general use in all crops where long-lasting, efficient threshing performance is the primary concern. |

Threshing element for STS combines with standard rotor |
In place of the rasp bars used in cylinder/straw walker combines, model years 2000 thru 2004 9650 thru 9750 STS Combines, model year 2005 9660 thru 9860 STS Combines, and all 9560 STS Combines feature a unique, smooth, threshing element. This patented, uniquely shaped bar is manufactured of an extremely tough, very hard material called austempered carbidic iron. The threshing surface helps to maintain optimum grain quality in all crops, while the trailing, blade-like edge moves the crop material rearward through the STS module (rotor).
|
To maintain overall combine performance, the STS threshing elements should be replaced when the rear blade edge is worn to approximately 1/2-in. (50.8 mm) in height. Replacement elements are sold in weight-matched sets of three so that proper threshing module balance is maintained. |

Rifled threshing elements for STS combines with bullet rotorsTo enhance the improved material handling of the bullet rotor, rifled threshing elements give superior indexing of the crop, moving material through the separator at a controlled speed to optimize separation capacity. Rifled threshing elements have been designed hand-in-hand with the new rotor design, focusing on superior material handling with superior grain quality. The rifled elements feature deep grooves, which spiral around the rotor to index and control the material. The grooves are deep and wide to avoid pinching the seed and have a smooth, rounded cross section to prevent damage to the seed from sharp edges.

Note: The rear rifled elements can be installed on the standard rotor for model years 2000 thru 2004 9650 and 9750 STS Combines and model year 2005 9660 thru 9860 STS Combines in place of the smooth threshing elements. All 9660 thru 9860 STS Combines above SN 715,101 have the bullet rotor and rifled elements already installed at the factory. The front and mid-rear elements cannot be used on standard rotors. |
